  1. I am a devoted fan of the book, and I was anxious to see the movie, it being so well loved. However, being familiar with and hating the terrible overdramatic acting of most old pictures, I was apprehensious about viewing the movie version of such a beloved book of mine. I was right to be worried. Now of course no movie can live up to the book, time wise, many things have to be cut out, but I was terribly disappointed with the actors, they were phony and at times even laughable, Clark Gable was the only one that did his character any justice, yet still lacking. The characters overall looked the part, very well, (except for Ashley-much too old and ugly) but the feeling and passion which was palpable in the book, and which made it such a classic, is altogether absent in the movie. The scenes are colourful and vibrant, and the costumes etc, very well done, but without the human emotions, the viewer is felt feeling bored and unsatisfied.
